"Phonemic Awareness in Kindergarten"

Phonemic Awareness deals with sounds in spoken words; in Pre-kinder and Kindergarten levels we worked through a variety of activities to help children be aware of the sounds in English.

We played games, worked with handicraft materials and experimented with every-day objects to stimulate Phonemic Awareness.

We had different activities to work the initial sounds of the letters, as for example:

  • “M is for Muffin”, Pre- kinder children baked delicious muffins in the “m” week and in kinder , the children make beautiful masks
  • “S is for Sandwich”, kindergarten children enjoy a healthy tomato, ham and cheese sandwich.
  • “T is for Tiger”, in kindergarten children turned themselves into wild tigers while they became aware of this phoneme

"Reading Activities"

As the first stage ,working the Reading ability, the kids “read “  short stories, practicing High Frequency Words as : my, a, the.

The interactive board is a great tool to practice the new words, and the kids have fun creating their own sentences

"All About Me" Project

In April, Pre Kinder children worked the Project “My Name”. They had fun playing games, painting, modeling with clay and working in different activities that helped them to recognize their names.

During this project, the children increased their vocabulary and practiced their Fine Motor Skills.

In Kinder, children asked their parents about the origins of their names and explain it in class.

We also had the activity “My Family Treasury Box”, Kindergarten kids had the opportunity to show their friends their family pictures and what things they like to do together while they practice the new language.

My Body and Nutrition

In this unit, children worked different activities to be aware of their bodies and functions. They sang songs, learned poems and worked art crafts to reinforce the body parts vocabulary.

We worked the theme "The 5 Senses”, the students learned about sight, touch, smell, hearing and taste. The children worked a variety of tasks to be aware of their senses and functions.

We used the Interactive Board to reinforce the vocabulary; they had fun fixing a face in the board.

In June, we learned about Nutrition. Children acquired information and new vocabulary about different kind of food (meat, sweets, vegetables, grains etc) we enjoyed a delicious salad and fruit juice and made a food pyramid.
